With much concern for Tamilnadu and for you,the future
trustees of this sacred soil, i write this long and thoughtful letter. Please
take your time to read through it patiently.Your participation in this process
means a world to me.
You must have observed my words and deeds and the way
I have carried myself all along my career in the cinema industry, public life
andmy other creative and expressive works with pen and paper. As a cinema
artiste, had it been only for the fame and fortune, I could have easily ignored
the recent socio-political and socio-economic developments in our society. But,
my revered love for mother tongue, Tamil, and its people never allowed me to
ignore, instead galvanized and transformed me to become a responsible writer
and reformer for a cause, concerned only with the welfare of the land and its
people.
Its no surprise, the recent developments forced our
people to lose hope and trust over the Judiciary, The Legislative Assembly, The
Parliament, and the Media, once considered the cornerstones of our democracy.
As the mainstream media failed and faded away on moral grounds, the social
media gained more prominence and acceptance. The social media provided the
youth and student fraternity with an excellent platform not only to share their
views but also to vent out their resentments. The student fraternity seems to
have a clear understanding about politics and this staggering political
awareness have started leading to many meaningful and progressive discussion
forums. Their social media exchanges demonstrate the maturity of the youth,
despite their deep-rooted frustrations and anguish over the way political class
conducts itself.
Moreover, the recent Jallikattu protest sites have
also equipped them very well with a more practical and hands on experience and
exposure to propel them forward, what the education system had deprived them
of, all these years. They have clearly understood the harsh reality that social
justice and survival is highly dependent on protests. They are just maneuvering
a wait and watch approach. They have clearly understood the necessity to be on
their own. It was much evident from the recent Jallikattu protest, showcasing a
mature and very well controlled aggression, setting a new global benchmark, on
how to protest peacefully.
Now, we are staring at a strange situation, wherein
the criminals are getting lined up to loot, out number the ones who are
looting, and the ones already looted us all. And if someone is to be held
responsible for this situation, its only we, the people, who failed to exercise
the vote with due responsibility and forethought. This lack of knowledge and
understanding, led us to the present situation where politics considered once a
service to the people and nation, becoming a thriving and the most profitable
business opportunity at the cost of people.
TN would have been in the first place, had we
exercised our votes consciously, without falling prey to the freebies and
temporary monetary benefits. Had we voted consciously, farmers wouldn’t
have to face these dire consequences of waiting a whole day to get 1 kg of raw
rice for the Pongal festival, after having given their entire produce to the
society? It is these types of painful and pathetic circumstances which pushed
all the farmers, to force their sons and daughters to equip themselves and look
out for any other job, but farming. It is high time, the next generation needs
to get into farming only then our future generations will have food on their
plates.
If we all could connect and consolidate the 12.5
million youth, the future belongs to us. This consolidation and unified voice
will empower us to decide our future course and to dissolve all our problems.
To achieve this marvelous feat, we need a forum, a movement, to identify the
honest, genuine and like minded people to address our key socio-economic
issues. This responsibility lies with each and every one of us, the socially
aware youth who consider themselves accountable to and for the sake of our
society. Though we have realized it on individual basis, its time we need to
work as a team to voice our views and concerns for the well being of our
society. Since long, socially conscious people and well wishers have been
insisting me to initiate and spearhead a movement to reach out to the people in
an organized manner, primarily to address the sensitive social issues which I
kept avoiding citing time and other professional constraints. Being the need of
the hour, one such movement has become very inevitable to our wholesome
progress. So, I have decided to join hands with the like minded youth to form a
movement. This movement is for you, the progressive youth. It is to be trusted
with you. My only wish is to create the right and versatile platform, nourish
it and pass it on, back to you to take this forward progressively.
This movement will empower us to further the cause of
the people as well as to extend the boundaries of public work. Its time, to eliminate the political business
class!
Its time, to instill the social accountability class!!
Come, let all of us join hands and create the right
ecosystem.
ARISE.AWAKE.THE
HOUR IS NOW.
